Meteor Vineyard Perseid Cabernet Sauvignon marries the elements of our clonally diverse planting in one singularly expressive wine. Meteor Vineyard is a collaborative project of vineyard proprietor Barry Schuler and longtime Napa Valley winemakers Bill and Dawnine Dyer. Located on a knoll in Napa Valley’s Coombsville appellation, our unique combination of elevation, aspect and stony, rich volcanic soil produces some of Napa Valley’s most distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid is rich, dense and expansive, with tons of depth and pure volume. In this vintage, the Perseid is especially jammy and intense. Black plum, chocolate, licorice, cloves, leather and cedar are some of the notes that build as this sumptuous, racy Cabernet Sauvignon shows all it's got. Rich and expressive, the 2017 Perseid Cabernet Sauvignon is packed with aromatics of ripe blackberries, red currants, currant leaves, oolong tea, warm sweet tobacco, and just a hint of dark roast coffee. The palate is pure fruit with a firm acidity that harmonizes with the fruit creating a mouthwatering impression. 2017 was a year of extremes. The 5 year drought ended with the wettest January in California since 1998. April remained cool, but as temperatures rose in May, we experienced rapid vine growth, creating challenges in managing the vine canopies. On June 11th, the valley was visited by an intense low pressure system, dropping temperatures by 20 degrees and producing significant amounts of hail. Fortunately, Meteor was spared any significant damage. From July through September we experienced what seemed like an unending series of heat events. The good news was that the stress on the vines produced by the heat helped to keep berry size small, and strong, well positioned canopies helped to protect the fruit. Water resources were challenged. The intense growing season of 2017 produced a wine of stellar power as well as refinement. A razor sharp structure, combined with finesse and style, the 2017 Perseid is simply seductive. Piercingly dark, with bright spice on the nose, the 2017 has piercing cassis, lavender, blue fruit, dark cocoa, with silky tannins and balanced acidity.
