With only 1 barrel produced, our Special Family Reserve represents the absolute finest fruit from Meteor Vineyard. Hand selected by the row and cluster from a rock strewn section planted to Clone 7 on Saint George rootstock, barrel aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months and then bottle aged for an additional year prior to release. Aromas of black tea, chocolate/mocha and red peppercorns surround a core of blackberries, red currants and cassis. Densely packed aromas reverse on the palate, opening to a mouthwatering expression of bright red fruit. The wine is rich and concentrated with firm, velvety tannins ending in a long warm spice driven finish. Though absolutely gorgeous now, this wine will age gracefully in the cellar.

An aromatic core of berries; cassis, blackberry and briary, wild berries is warmed by notes of sweet tobacco and Linzer torte. A spicy, Mexican chocolate settles on the aromas and flavors. There is a brightness on the palate that is almost explosive- pops of clove, cedar and chocolate meld with the bright balance. The tannins are firm- just enough so to ground the lushness of the aromas and flavors. An exceptionally expressive SFR from a small vintage.

Deep garnet-purple, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Family Reserve offers up fresh black currants, black cherries and plums with hints of violets, spice cake and dusty earth. Ripe and expressive in the medium to full-bodied mouth with ripe, grainy tannins, it finishes long and spicy.

This was another very dry winter, with only around 15 inches of rain, not as bad as 2013, but very dry. The salvation was around 4 inches of rain in March, after virtually none in January and February. Yields were very low- cumulative effects of drought stress, very warm weather during bloom, and an extremely hot summer. Heat events during the summer contributed to very small berries, and this led to big tannins and great color. The water supply held up, and was important to helping the vines get through the heat waves. Cabernet harvest at Meteor began on September 3rd, and ended on September 12th Petit Verdot was harvested on September 18th. Overall the quality was outstanding. Mike Wolf, Vineyard Manager
