From the Vineyard- "Winter rains continued well into the spring pushing back budbreak and delaying fruit set. What started late, continued slow with cooler than normal temperatures and greater cloud cover through veraison. With threats of a late season and mildew pressure high, thinning and canopy management to promote airflow was an ongoing activity during much of the growing season. Veraison finished mid-August and with it a return to normal temperatures. Ripening progressed well and harvest began on October 14 just ahead of fall rains. From the Winemaker- "The 2010 Perseid is a deeply colored garnet hue with typical violet edge. Ripe blackberry aromas meld with complex layers of licorice, sweet tobacco, coffee beans and green olives. The flavors on the palate replicate the aromas with a refined texture and plush tannins providing a firm structural backbone. The long lingering finish is round and silky with ripe tannins. Some winemakers in the valley expressed tremendous frustration in the beginning of August as cloud cover continued to slow the pace of ripening.
