Private Cellar Release from 18 years ago...

You read that right: for the first time in our history, we're releasing our rarest wine, straight from Barry's cellar. Going all the way back to BEFORE Meteor was inaugurated, the Dyers crafted a single barrel from the 2004 vintage consisting of 100% Clone 337. When the decision was made to launch Meteor with the 2005, with more appropriate volumes, those 25 cases went straight into the cellar.

Eighteen years is a long time by Napa standards, and nothing highlights the ageability of our wines like this one does. Remarkably fresh and incredibly complex, this is truly a spectacular wine. While it still has years of life in it, it's drinking so perfectly now we couldn't wait to finally bring it out.

23 Cases produced

The 2004 vintage began with early bud break in mid March. Cool weather during bloom led to small fruit set, naturally reducing yields in the vineyard. A typically hot August was followed by warmer than normal temperatures in September and by the middle of the month the grapes had developed full flavors and a jammy lush ripeness. Scrupulous sorting in the field and in the cellar produced fruit that combined richness with restraint.

"Fruit forward aromas of red cherry and blackcurrant, chocolate and darjeeling tea meld with supple tannins, incredible length and the distinct minerality that is distinctly Meteor Vineyard." Dawnine Dyer, Winemaker
