Meteor's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid is gorgeous. A rush of red plum, pomegranate and wild flowers makes a strong opening statement. Silky tannins, mid-weight structure and soft, pliant fruit all add to the wine's considerable appeal. Even with all of its intensity, the 2015 retains striking freshness and nuance. This is a fabulous showing from Meteor. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Initially tight and brooding, the 2015 Perseid Cabernet Sauvignon opens to an explosion of ripe plum, red raspberry, and cassis with an overlay of provencal flowers (think lavender and thyme). This is a concentrated wine, justifiably so if you remember that the crop was down 50/%. Savory notes of cocoa, leather, and tobacco seem to emerge out of the lush fruit. The structure is all Meteor with a solid core of acidity and firm but finessed tannins. This is a particularly long lived wine and will benefit from decanting for the next few years. Dawnine Dyer, Winemaker
This was another very dry winter, with only around 15 inches of rain, not as bad as 2013, but very dry. The salvation was around 4 inches of rain in March, after virtually none in January and February. Yields were very low- cumulative effects of drought stress, very warm weather during bloom, and an extremely hot summer. Heat events during the summer contributed to very small berries, and this led to big tannins and great color. The water supply held up, and was important to helping the vines get through the heat waves. Cabernet harvest at Meteor began on September 3rd, and ended on September 12th Petit Verdot was harvested on September 18th. Overall the quality was outstanding. Mike Wolf, Vineyard Manager
The 2015 Perseid hails from our smallest vintage on record. Those low yields (down 50%!) produced a wine of intensity and power that highlight this vintage's uniqueness. It's weight and heft, matched with striking elegance and lift, glide over the palate like a Rolls Royce Phantom, with rushes of dark chocolate, acacia flowers, Moroccan spice, dark fruit and red chili. Silky, almost velvety tannins coat the finish with freshness and style. Built for the long haul, this Coombsville Cabernet is destined to be a classic, racing ahead for the next 25+ years.
