From the Critic Robert Parker 97 Points
The opaque blue/purple 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid, from vineyard in the southeast sector of Napa Valley, really is strutting its stuff. It's backward, shows loads of minerality and earth, but the tannic structure is strong, the wine inky purple with plenty of blackberry and cassis. The mouth layers are incredible and the finish just goes on and on. This is a remarkable effort that should age effortlessly for 25-30 years. In fact it probably won't be even hitting its plateau for another 5-6 years.

From the Winemaker Dawnine Dyer
Layered on the perennial Meteor core of black berry, cherry and chocolate is a potpourri of high notes; current leaves, fennel fronds, verbena, and violets lend a lively freshness to the darker cardomon, smoke, chocolate-cherry cordial, and almond paste, The body is lively and texturally rich, nice grippy tannins give the wine authority. All the aromatic interest repeats on the pallet and lingers in the finish.

From the Vineyard Manager Mike Wolf
2013 was an exceptional year in Napa. It began with a great deal of concern because of the lack of winter rainfall. It was one of, if not the driest year since records have been kept. Early season irrigation produced healthy canopies, and the vines were in good condition during the critical bloom/fruit set period. Favorable weather conditions allowed for successful pollination, leading to a potentially very large crop. It was a long growing season, with no really significant heat waves, allowing the fruit to develop slowly and completely. Regularly scheduled fungicide applications were effective in controlling mildew, in a year of very high pressure. Meteor produced a crop somewhat above average in yields, even after significant thinning, but of truly exceptional quality. The fruit was harvested at night, on September 24th and 25th. This was a bit earlier than typical, but the early start to the growing season, and extremely favorable conditions all season long allowed ample time for optimal flavor development.

From the Estate Director Eric Smith
The uniqueness of the 2013 vintage is on full display in this textbook 100% Cabernet. Intense and lifted on the nose, with pencil shavings, cigar box and crushed blackberries. On the palate the volcanic soils make their effect known with striking minerality & walnut-like notes. These meld seamlessly with the intense blackberry, cacao, cherry & acacia flowers. Not for the meek, this is a powerhouse wine- richly layered, multi-textured & complex. Built for the long haul, but hedonistic nonetheless, even in its youth.
